When the fire alarm is actually a toaster

At 7:12 a.m., we executed our lobby evacuation playbook in 45 seconds flat — only to discover Housekeeping toasting a bagel in the staff lounge set off the sensor. I congratulated the team for the drill-speed response, reassigned “toaster custody” to Security, and added breakroom appliances to the daily safety sweep; anyone else winning the day on a technicality?

Same here — @Maintenance swapped our lounge smoke for a heat detector and we put the toaster on an auto-off smart plug; crumb-tray cleaning is now on the opening checklist so the ‘alarm clock’ stops at breakfast… Reassigning custody helps, but loop Facilities in on any detector change so you’re within code. Want the smart plug model we used?

We slapped a laminated ‘Shade 2 max — no bagel mode before 8 a.m.’ tag right on the toaster and the false alarms stopped; not perfect if someone likes it dark — anyone else tried ‘shade limits’?
